<image:caption>I love running, but I’m terribly inconsistent when it comes to training toward any particular running goal. My failure-focused goal for 2026 is to continue fail at training consistently, but to go out for a mediocre run anyway whenever I feel like it in the moment. When I was in New Zealand a couple of months ago, there was a beautiful 5 km running route along the waterfront and I got a great run in most mornings!</image:caption>

<image:title>Dr. Nicole Johnson | EdTech Takeaways - ‘De-risk’ taking risks: My biggest takeaway from 2025 - I close each blog post with a random photo that shares a bit more about me:</image:title>
<image:caption>Last month, I travelled to Wellington, New Zealand for the ICDE Conference. Along with attending the conference, I also went on some fantastic hikes and swims, including a jump off “the plank” at the Wellington waterfront (see photo). Although I’m an avid swimmer (it’s my favourite way to stay fit), I’m not a fan of heights so the jump into the ocean definitely felt risk-taking-ish to me! Also big thanks to the friends who encouraged me to jump with them, and who got photographic evidence that I did indeed do so.</image:caption>

<image:title>Dr. Nicole Johnson | EdTech Takeaways - Can we stop assuming that in-person learning is “better”? - The random photo I’ve chosen to accompany this post:</image:title>
<image:caption>A picture of me in my early days in the field of education (fun fact: I started my career teaching sixth grade in the early 2000s). Learning how to keep a room full of middle schoolers interested and on task was one of the most valuable and rewarding experiences I’ve had. If you can do that, you can do pretty much anything! Also, if there are any areas where you need to improve as a teacher, eleven-year-olds will most definitely let you know and they will not be subtle about it.</image:caption>
